Call for applications: 2023 Historians of Netherlandisch Art (HNA) Fellowships

Current HNA members are eligible to apply for a 2023 HNA Fellowship. The topic of the research project must be within the field of the art and architecture of the Netherlands (Dutch and Flemish) from ca. 1350-1750, together with the art of Germany, England, and France, and their global trading networks. Up to $2,000 may be requested for purposes such as: travel to collections or research facilities, purchase of photographs or reproduction rights, subvention of a publication, curatorial project, or a project in the digital humanities. We also will consider requests for coverage of childcare or other related costs to make research and writing time possible. Priority will be given to projects not previously awarded an HNA Fellowship.

HNA is committed to increasing the diversity of the field and its scholarship, as well as supporting the values of equity and inclusion. For this reason, we particularly encourage applications from BIPOC scholars, and from perspectives long underrepresented in the field of Northern European art.

Winners will be notified in February 2023, with funds to be distributed by April. The application should consist of: (1) a short description of project (1-2 pp), in which you describe your project and its significance, and situate it within the relevant literature; (2) a budget; (3) a list of further funds applied/received for the same project; and (4) a current C.V. Doctoral applicants must also include a letter of recommendation (maximum 1 page) from an advisor, which should be emailed separately by the referee under the subject line: HNA Fellowship Letter for [Candidate’s Name].

Applications should be compiled into a single pdf and sent via e-mail by January 9, 2023, to Ashley West, Vice-President, Historians of Netherlandish Art. E-mail:  ashley.west@temple.edu.
