GHD Ubbo Emmius Historical Conference

The long wait is finally over! Here we present you the theme of the historical conference.

The GHD Ubbo Emmius is the study association for history students at the University of Groningen. Every year our committee organizes a historical conference. The theme of this year’s conference is The long century of transformation: from nation-state to a federative Europe? (1848-present). During three plenary lectures and several workshops, we want to delve deeper into a number of aspects of the transformation of Europe from ‘Revolutionary Year 1848’, to increasing international integration in the century afterwards, culminating in the Post-WW II emergence of the contemporary EU. The focus will be on questions of continuity and change in the transition from modern nation-states with their own cultural communities, to the ever-evolving EU as a federative union with a shared European culture.

The conference The Long Century of Transformation: From Nation-State to a Federative Europe? (1848-present) will take place on Friday October 8th at the Van Swinderenhuys and the Doopsgezinde Kerk.

The ticket sales for the Ubbo Emmius historical conference are open. The ticket price is €10.00 for Ubbo members and €12.50 for non-Ubbo members, this is including lunch. Do not forget to register for the workshops after purchasing your ticket.
