You will:

– make a strong and inspiring contribution to the teaching programmes in History (including its development), at BA, MA and PhD levels
– supervise PhD theses
– coordinate and conduct research in the field
– acquire external funding for research
– perform administrative and organizational duties within and potentially outside the Faculty.

Requirements

We encourage you to apply if you have:
– completed a PhD in the field of Contemporary History
– a track record of outstanding, internationally recognized research, with publications in leading journals in this field
– an outstanding international network
– demonstrated the ability to acquire external research funding and su-pervise/co-supervise PhD theses
– excellent leadership and organizational skills
– demonstrated excellent teaching skills and the ability to innovate; you successfully followed relevant didactic courses
– the ability to cooperate and work within a team
– excellent English language skills (C1 level of the CEFR) and you have a good knowledge of Dutch, or you are willing to learn this language to B2 level of the CEFR within two years
– the willingness to take up residence in or near the city of Groningen (within two years).

Conditions of employment

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:
– a salary depending on qualifications and work experience. For can-didates at full professor level, the salary ranges from a minimum of € 5,582 to a maximum of € 8,127 (salary scale Full Professor 2 Dutch Universities, as of 1 February 2019) gross per month for a full-time position (1.0 FTE)
– 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participa-tion in a pension scheme for employees
– a full-time position (1.0 FTE).

A (personality) assessment may be part of the procedure.

The new professor will start working in January 2020 (if possible) or as soon as possible afterwards.

The Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen invites applications for the position of Full Professor of Contemporary History. The University of Groningen offers four History programmes: bachelor programme History, 1 year’s master programme History, 2-year’s research master Contemporary and International Relations and 2-year’s research master Classical, Medieval and Early Modern Studies. The new professor’s research will focus on one or more of the subdomains of Contemporary History (in a global perspective). The influx of freshmen in the bachelor programme is about 140 students per year, in the master around 30. The chair group consists of 9 permanent staff members (including the profes-sor), some temporary lecturers and a couple of PhD students.
