Jobs – Assistant Professorships in Social and Economic History, Cultural History, Political History, and Cultural Heritage (Utrecht)
The Department of History and Art History at Utrecht University is looking for four assistant professors in various historical sub-disciplines. The deadline for all applications is 14 January 2016.
1. Social and Economic History
The Department of History and Art History seeks to appoint an assistant professor in social and economic history. We are looking for applicants specialised in the social and economic history of the 19th and 20th centuries. A proven record in fields such as comparative and/or global history or the comparative history of labour relations and socio-economic institutions is an added value. Likewise, international teaching experience is an advantage but not a requirement. Successful applicants are expected to teach in the domains of socio-economic history and the history of international relations, and to contribute to the university’s strategic research area Institutions for Open Societies. 2. Cultural History (with a specialization in digital humanities)
The Department of History and Art History seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in cultural history specialised in digital humanities. Applicants should have a firm grounding in European cultural history and the theory and methodology of digital humanities; they must also have a proven working knowledge of digital humanities tools relevant to the broad historical domain. The assistant professor will be expected to engage with colleagues and students within and outside the cultural history section as well as beyond the department itself.
Research work must complement that of existing staff in the Cultural History group. Applicants should show how their research will contribute to the group’s research focus on Western modernity and to the university’s strategic research area Institutions for Open Societies. 3. Political History (20th Century)
The Department of History and Art History seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in twentieth-century political history. Applicants should be specialised in European political history. A proven record in fields such as the history of democratisation and citizenship or the history of revolutions and political violence is an added value. Experience with research from a comparative or transnational perspective in a wide range of sources is an advantage.
Applicants should be able to show how their research work will complement that of existing staff in the Political History group and further contribute to the group’s research focus and to the university’s strategic research area Institutions for Open Societies. 4. Cultural Heritage
The Department of History and Art History seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in tangible and/or intangible cultural heritage with a strong commitment towards public history. Applicants should have expertise in identity formation and cultural memory as well as excellent knowledge of the underlying theory, but may otherwise be specialised in any topic within the broader domain of cultural heritage in Europe. The assistant professor will be expected to engage with cultural institutions inside and outside the Netherlands and build extensive networks with these institutions. A proven record in digital humanities is an added value.
