PhD positions in Culture Studies, Graduate School for the Humanities.
We offer five PhD positions in the areas of ‘Arts in Society’ and ‘Historical Studies’. As a PhD candidate, you are committed to conducting independent and original scientific research, to report on this research in international publications and presentations, and to present the final results of the research in a PhD dissertation.
For the Research Centre for Historical Studies we welcome research proposals that connect to one of the 3 focal themes (see: www.rug.nl/research/icog/research/research-centres/research-centre-for-historical-studies/): ‘Sustainable societies: past and present’, ‘Regions, Networks, Mobility’, and ‘Thinking about History and Historical Culture’.
For the Research Centre Arts in Society, we welcome proposals directed at the areas of research within the Centre (see www.rug.nl/research/arts-in-society/), and in particular (Pop) Music, as well as European Literatures and Cultures. More generally, we welcome proposals for innovative research questions in art, media, culture, and literary studies in relation to the University’s research focus Sustainable Society (www.rug.nl/research/sustainable-society/?lang=en).
We are looking for talented and ambitious researchers in the relevant disciplines.
Your qualifications are:
- a master’s degree in one of the three areas mentioned above, with an excellent academic record
- proven research abilities and affinity with the research topic
- excellent command of English and good academic writing skills.
