Three PhD Positions at the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH)

Job description

As a PhD candidate you will write a PhD thesis, participate in the Graduate School for the Humanities, which includes taking courses for approx. six months, and provide six months of academic service to the Faculty of Arts at Radboud University. Your thesis topic and research question should align with one of the focus areas of the Radboud Institute for Culture & History, where this position is embedded. Requirements

  • A Master’s degree (or completion of the degree before September 2021) in one of the disciplines related to RICH
  • A declaration of approval from the intended main doctoral thesis supervisor at the rank of full professor from the Radboud Institute for Culture & History.
  • You are result oriented, fluent in English, and have excellent writing skills.
  • Demonstrable research experience in the field of your proposal will be considered an advantage.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: you will be appointed for an initial period of 18 months, after which your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by 2.5 years (4 year contract) or 3.5 years (5 year contract).

  • Employment: 0.8 (5 year contract) – 1.0 FTE (4 year contract).
  • The gross starting salary amounts to €2,395 per month based on a 38-hour working week, and will increase to €3,061 from the fourth year onwards (salary scale P).
  • In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • Duration of the contract: you will be appointed for an initial period of 18 months. After 14 months your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by 2.5 years (4 year contract) or 3.5 years (5 year contract).
  • The intended start date is 1 September 2021.

Department

Faculty of Arts
The Faculty of Arts employs over 500 academic and support staff in the fields of history and art, languages and cultures, and linguistics and communication. Research is embedded in two faculty research institutes: the Centre for Language Studies (CLS) and the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH). The faculty currently has an enrolment of 2,400 students in three departments: the Department of History, Art History and Classics, the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, and the Department of Language and Communication. Your application must be supported by a declaration of approval written by your intended main doctoral thesis supervisor at RICH, whom you should contact well in advance of the deadline. Your daily supervisor may be a full professor, an associate professor or an assistant professor, but you will always need the support of an intended main doctoral thesis supervisor with the rank of full professor.
