Greek and Latin at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

Our small but very active Greek and Latin section is part of the Antiquity cluster of the Department of Art & Culture, History, and Antiquity. Its members cooperate with archaeologists and ancient historians in the same cluster as well as with colleagues at the University of Amsterdam. Together we offer several disciplinary and interdisciplinary BA and MA programmes within the framework of the Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology (ACASA). Our research is facilitated by the VU-wide interfaculty research institute CLUE+ and by OIKOS, the national Research School in Classics. Members of the section follow a variety of approaches: from linguistics and narratology to analysis of poetry, intertextuality and reception history. Patristic, Late Antique, and Byzantine literature are also well covered, as is the historical context of Classical literature.
