Call for Papers NISA International Conference

On 2-3- December 2026, the NISA International Conference, organized by the Netherlands Intelligence Studies Association, will take place. The central theme of this edition is the role, functioning, and governance of intelligence and security services in times of democratic erosion and backsliding. The conference invites scholars to critically reflect on the tensions between democratic oversight, state security, and political power. There is explicit scope for historical contributions that highlight long-term developments, comparative perspectives, and case studies from different periods and contexts. The Call for Contributions is open, among others, to original, interdisciplinarily informed contributions that demonstrate how insights from the past can contribute to understanding current and future challenges in intelligence studies. The deadline for abstracts is April 1st.
